How I grew my business through bartering

If you haven’t considered bartering as a way to grow your business, I’m here to tell you that you’re missing out. I used service trades and commodity exchanges to help grow a business from nothing to million dollar revenues within a decade. How, you ask? Read on for my story.

 

Nineteen years ago, my now-ex-husband and I were both working as top sales representatives for a direct mail advertising business, and he was laid off thanks to conflicts between him and the management team (and, unfortunately, management had the final say, so my ex was out on the street). He was good at what he did and enjoyed the work, so he decided to start a competing direct mail advertising business. Of course, my employer wasn’t happy with this outcome, so I ended up leaving my job as well. Couldn’t have a direct competitor’s spouse working among the ranks. So there we were, suddenly self-employed with a family to feed and a mortgage to pay. Talk about taking a leap of faith!
